I have to be honest: this morning I had no idea at all what this penultimate Twelvetide post was going to be about. Having spent several days in a row marking student papers on a laptop screen, I woke up with eyes and head a little jaded.
I wondered how long it would take to find something, a ‘treasure’ remarkable enough to write about. ‘I need some inspiration’ I said to myself, ‘and I need it sooner than later’.
To my surprise it didn’t take long.
While shopping in a local garden centre before Christmas I picked up a small pot with a few green shoots. It wasn’t a gift for anyone in particular, I just couldn’t resist taking it home with me. I brought it into the house and set it on a shelf behind the door in the bathroom. I left it there and forgot about it.
I wandered into the bathroom this morning and closed the door. The sight of this beauty sitting on the shelf stopped me in my tracks. I laughed out loud: I had found today’s treasure.
